family then moved to Bristol. A city which is the setting for much
of her writing.
Misha has been writing stories all her life and from the moment
she could hold a pen, all she wanted was to be a published author.
Beginning with an in house magazine, she moved on to plays for
friends and uncomplaining younger sister to perform. Historica
novels and animal stories followed. And all this before she was
twelve!
Later on she wrote plays for the drama workshop she ran and for the schools where she taught, because there are very few suitable new plays for kids to perform. Some of these were later published by Carel Press.
Dragonfire is her first book for children.
Most books state that they are purely works of imagination and that the characters bear no relation to anyone living or dead. Dragonfire is different. All the characters are based on people she knows, with their permission of course. Most of them are members of her family.
Polly, the heroine is her eldest daughter Posy Miller. Her brother David and sister Lucy are also important characters.
By a cruel irony Posy, whose career as actress and film star was just beginning, died of leukaemia before the book was published. No one knew she was ill. Her death was swift and unexpected, but since then she has made her appearance in all Misha’s work. In a way it’s a celebration of her life, as she shares so much with the feisty Polly Miller.
Dragonfire will be followed in May 2009 by The Juggler of Shapes.
As well as writing for children Misha has written for adults. Her latest short story has been published (July 2006) in a collection called "Bitch Lit", by Commonword and Crocus Books. See details on www.commonword.org.uk Bitch Lit is described as a smart and subversive celebration of female anti-heroes: women who take the law into their own hands, who defy society's expectations, who put their own needs first and don't feel guilty as a result.
Her adult novel “Shadows on the Grass” is set in Bristol in the sixties, and will be published shortly.
When not writing, she is teaching at a middle School in Leek, where she set up a thriving writers’ group and thoroughly enjoys working with the writers of the future
